.:Welcome Aboard:.

Congratulations on your assignment to the Screamin' Indians of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron SIX! On behalf of the entire squadron, welcome to our HSC-6 family. As your Commanding Officer, I assure you this will be an exciting, fast-paced, and highly rewarding tour. I look forward to serving with you.

Our squadron reports operationally to Commander, Carrier Air Wing SEVENTEEN (CVW 17) and administratively to Commander, Helicopter Sea Combat Wing Pacific (COMHSCWINGPAC). We fly the MH-60S Seahawk helicopter, a singularly versatile, dependable, and invaluable asset to the United States Navy. Our mission areas are Maritime and Overland Strike, Search and Rescue, Personnel Recovery, Naval Special Warfare, Anti-Surface Warfare and Logistics. As part of Carrier Air Wing SEVENTEEN, we deploy onboard USS NIMITZ (CVN-68) as well as provide assistance to other units as needed.

We accomplish this mission through our most important resource, our Sailors and their families. Our priority is to ensure a smooth transition to the squadron. As soon as we receive your orders, we will assign you a command sponsor and send you a welcome aboard package. If you are currently under orders and have not received a sponsor and/or welcome aboard package, please contact our Sponsorship Coordinator or our Command Master Chief. Also, please contact your sponsor as soon as possible and let him/her know what additional information you and/or your family need.

If you are arriving by commercial air and require transportation, let your sponsor know or call the command duty office and a fellow squadron member will pick you up. The San Diego International Airport has an exceptional USO open 365 days a year. It provides military personnel with WiFi, use of computers, television, lounge to relax, snack and beverages, unlimited domestic calls, bathrooms, showers, game room, children's play room, and more. Additionally, I encourage you to check out the Fleet and Family Support Center (http://navylifesw.com/sandiego/). FFSC can provide you with information on the San Diego area and a hospitality kit. You and your family can learn about what is available in our area and what recreational facilities are on the installation by contacting the local Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) office. If you have children and are interested in childcare or other youth programs, please inquire the base's Child Development Center, Youth Center and Teen programs. If you are married and your spouse is looking for employment in the area, you may contact the Family Employment Readiness Program at your FFSC. These are just a few of the numerous resources available to you and your family.

Again, welcome to "America's Finest City" and the Navy's finest squadron!

Respectfully,

Commander Todd A. Pike USN
Commanding Officer, Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron SIX
